Stone Warden questions, new player

So after seeing this class, a dual shielding arcane nature casting dwarf badass, i immediately had to support the game to get it. Being Dwarf only, this is obviously the best class ! I was wondering though, do i NEED to dual wield shields? Has anyone tried like weapon/shield with weapon mastery ? Doesnt seem like it disables any skills, or is it just a waste of generic points for slightly more damage ?

I havnt got past level 12 though, playing rather recklessly and exploring the dungeons to find a safe order to do them in, i think i like focusing on willpower for my stone warden and getting powerful vines, they kill most trash before i can get close to them. I've already decided my first catagory to be alchemy for gems/imbuing, but all of the Magic catagories look good too...

IIRC you get all the class benefits even if you use shield + weapon, and weapons are usually better for stabbing things than shields, so yeah. Probably a fine use of those 5 Generic points.

My opinion is that you should save your generic points for some other options, like wild gifts, stone alchemy, conditioning etc. Later in the game survavibility > dmg, so two shield come handy with their incredible defenses and resistances.

I figured i'd be swapping out the weapon mastery for that later, i found a good 1h weapon early on i wanted to take advantage of. Cant get rid of the last point in the skill though, doh :( im up to level 18 ! But im on my last life >< but its been a very educational run, i had no idea there were so many lower-level dungeons scattered around, i assumed difficulty would scale linearly so i've been tackling much harder dungeons simply because they were close ! And i didnt know some events triggered at certain levels, i missed the arena quest :(

So my next run will be a lot smoother, also learned turning in one alchemy quest ends another, ended up with the wrong potion ! But i had the fortune to have a merchant selling the Titanic shield which i saved up for <3 hopefully i can live long enough to access my vault.

I also found that Crysolit gem thing, any idea if it works on shields or only weapons ? I assumed it didnt and i didnt find a blank shield to test it with so i turned it into a quest since i wont need it for some staff either.. Is there a handy map or order of operations guide ?

Crystal focus currently does not work on shields... But it should. To the IDEAS forum!!!

I got to High Peak with my last Stone Warden and I'd say the two shields are king. I let the Vines and stone/crystal halves do most of the work, until I got Eldritch Stone unlocked. At this point I used that as well. All in all, the Warden doesn't seem to do a lot of weapon damage, and I personally find the shield bash tree mediocre except the first one (for use when there's nothing better to do.)

I really havnt bothered with the stone twins at all, but the Arcane Shield bash is amazing for sure, sometimes i get the nature one, depending on the target its done a lot more since its four attacks.

I think i went for.. Deeprock, for the transformation, since i heard survivability is most important. Were you half spellpower half willpower then? Is it worth getting 50 dex for the gem crafting prodigy? I was really disapointed when i saw it was a dex skill :(

My most succesfull stone warden was a caster one, focusing on earth and stone trees. I tried melee versions of this class and it just seemed pointless. Here is the link

I believe you can qualify for prodigies with gear-based stats - so it's more a matter of hoarding and/or acquiring stat gear than it is actually investing for it.
