How to unlock Ultracold?

Currently on an Alchemist run, about lvl 18.
No points in Frost Infusion, been focusing on Acid. Interesting in unlocking Uttercold tree depending on what the requirements are (if its just X damage on one hit, I'll pump a few points into Frost Infu late game just to unlock and then remove those points). If its X total cold damage done, and X is a big number, I guess it might have to wait for another character to unlock it (booo).

This is the case.
It's the same big number as Wildfire requires (1 million).

As a side project I'm currently doing the same. Pumping Mag on my golem and doing staff channel myself, both with Cold staves equipped.

Given alchy's late game damage tendancies (A *bad* throw hits everything in the vicinity for 1500, with a crit in confined spaces I can top 3000), a million cold damage is *quite* achievable late game, just save up your +cold damage% gear and head through the sher'tul fortress portal for lots of medium class enemies.

Alchemist is certainly one of the ways to get the achivement for this unlock, though wyrmic can contribute nicely, as can necro. Neither as much, or as fast, but it works.

Oh, and for Gerlyk's sake, make sure you're not playing on Easier. The game won't keep track of your progress if you are.

^That. The game does not track any achievements on easier. (adventure mode if fine, though the achievements track seperately for each mode, so pick one and stick with it. Don't swap between exploration and adventurer or roguelike, don't swap between normal and nightmare, and don't try to get unlocks on easier at all.)
While a few unlocks are tied directly to quest rewards, IIRC, or other happenings, many are tied to achievements, which means they cannot be earned in easier.
You can also check the achievement to see how you're doing in progress. (labeled 'cryomancy' in this case.)

Thanks for the info, guys.
Guess I'll consider switching to frost soon.
