Decided to try designing my first addon, so here it is.
(Ents are walking trees if you didn't know)
The main focus for this race is size category growth, making it great for grappling brawlers and a certain prodigy.
Race:Ent
-20% Movement
25% Exp penalty
Talent:Gigantic Growth
Size category +1/2/3/4/5
Talent:Healthy Girth
+Con,+Wil scaled by size category
Talent:Throw Boulder
Boulder Throwers talent rescaled for either Con or Will
Talent:Towering Stride
+4% movement speed per Size category
Cooldowns and lore will come after I figure out the basics of the race
Don't be afraid to pick this apart, I need ideas.
EDIT: Initial Version released

I like it. Maybe give them an arcane lockout like the opposite of skeletons.

It seems like a really interesting idea, I agree.
Perhaps only lock them out of Defilers, though?
And... an "ent" is Tolkienesque. In these parts, we have Treants.

Starting with a movement speed penalty and then giving a talent for removing it is an icky idea.
How about a global speed penalty and a bigger movement speed buff?
Also, would be pretty interesting to make all their racials scale with creature size.
Something like:
Talent:Healthy Girth
+Con,+Wil scaled by size category
-5% global speed per size category
Talent:Throw Boulder
Boulder Throwers talent rescaled for size category
Talent:Towering Stride
+10% movement speed per Size category
Talent:Gigantic Growth
Size category +1/1/2/2/3 (+5 size category is crazy huge)
+Life based on size category

Thanks for the initial feedback guys.

I agree with locking them out of Defilers. Regarding the Treants IIRC thier lore indicates them having the same intelligence as animals, so I went with Ents to avoid that issue.

Your right on the ickiness of the speed penalty, maybe remove the innate speed penalty and make Towering Stride a tradeoff of movement and global speed.
Maybe I could change it to something like this.
Talent:Healthy Girth
+Con,+Wil scaled by size category
Talent:Throw Boulder
Boulder Throwers talent rescaled for size category
and by some stat so it scales late game
Talent:Towering Stride
+10% movement speed per Size category
-5% global speed per size category
Talent:Gigantic Growth
Size category +1/1/2/2/3
+Life based on size category"What should be the default +Life be ,10"

I've been curious about the lore involving Treants for quite a while, it would be great to flesh it out. It's hinted that the tree's sentience is somehow related to the sher'tul ruins in the old forest... where did Treants come from? Did they exist in the age of haze or are they a more recent development?

Update: Made the treant start small, allowing me to squeeze in another size increase. Added Stats. Increased exp penalty. Added some talent scaling.
Race:Treant
Size:Small
Stats:+1 Str, +2 Con, -2 Dex, +2 Wil, -2 Cun, +0 Mag
Immunities found on normal treants
100%Bleed Resist
100%Fear Resist
Life Rating:+10
Exp Penalty:35%
Talent:Healthy Girth
+(0.5/1/1.5/2.5/4)*Size Cat; Con and Wil
Talent:Throw Boulder
(+50 Dmg)*Size Cat, +(1 or 0.5 dmg) for highest stat Con or Will
4/5/6/7/8 Range
Talent:Towering Stride
+(2/4/6/8/10) movement speed per Size category
-5% global speed per size category
Talent:Gigantic Growth
Size category +1/2/2/3/4
+ 2 Life Rating per size category
I'm thinking of having the starting area being Norgos and tying in a jump in intelligence with the weird things going on in the Heart of Gloom. What do you think?

probably a bit much on Healthy Girth still. A 32 stat point skill is pretty impressive. Skells get 22 as a tier 1 admittedly. Never really pushed augmentation or Strength of purpose very far but most I've gotten from them is 19-20ish.

Yeah it's a lot but you have to invest 10 generics into 2 talents for that. It can be changed later if it's way too much.

Healthy Girth seems fine since you do have to max two talents to get a good effect.
Gigantic Growth: Are you aware that any changes to life rating aren't retro active, so those bonus life points will only apply to later levels after getting that talent?

Yeah, I was aware that it wasn't retroactive. I've been debating whether to make Gigantic Growth the 1st skill or make it the last but make it available at level 12, so that the life rating takes effect early. Also beginning the actual coding so it should be available for testing soon.

I think a global speed penalty is a bad idea. Look at ghouls, the global speed penalty they have is huge.
Re: throw boulder, I'd maybe make it throw a branch as a beam attack instead.

I've been enjoying it so far!
The best first impression was from the character sprite- seeing a tree tucked into a robe and holding a staff was great
Stone throw makes for good early game sniping, and now I just need to get lucky and find a 'monstrous' ego in one of the shops...

Were-treant will crush the tree-killers!
Treant werebeast (from verdant class pack) gets treant aspect, and can stalk people by the light of the moon!
Gigantic growth seems slightly abusable, by pumping it just before level-up for the life rating if you weren't planning on maxing it out anyway. Maybe make it unlearnable?
Also, I still find it hilarious to imagine a treant squeezing its roots into a set of boots or balancing a wizard's hat on it's canopy
