[b41] New Class: Ranger ( Archer with Pet ) v8

This addon adds a new class to ToME, the Ranger! They use bows and a tamed animal to fight.

Mechanics:
-Tame Animal: Allows you to tame a wild animal that will then fight for you! Select your favorite! :D
--To replace it, let it die and then tame a new one instead of reviving.
-Commands: Pet commands are instant, set other commands on a short cooldown and dont break reloading
-Equilibrium shows how willing your pet is to follow your commands
-No friendly fire: Don't worry about hitting your pet while shooting at enemies
-Ranger talents reach maximum efficiency when close to your pet and enemies


Here is an overview of the talents straight from my idea sheet ( and thus ugly, better look at them ingame):

Ranger Archery DEX
Image+Barrage (cone): fires arrows with reduced damage in cone, for single target burst damage in close range or area damage further away
Image+Easy Prey: passive: accuracy bonus decreasing with distance to target active: +dmg, -accuracy on shots
Image+Poison Arrows: fully reload quiver with poison tipped arrows that are used for the next shots/skill uses
Image+Killing Shot: attack with bonus to damage, crit chance and crit multiplier

Beastmastery WIL Image+Revive pet Image+Tame Animal +shoot through friendly
Image+Treat: heals, reduces your equilibrium if used on pet
Image+Thick Hide / Command: watch out: passive: thick skin for pet // active: pet getsevasion for x turns
Image+Combat Drill / Command: Give your best!: accuracy and damage all for pet// Active: critical chance increased for pet for x turns
+Blitz: Instant attack of ranger and pet.

Commands WIL(equi)
Image+Command: Jump: makes pet jump to target location
Image+Command: Heel Crush: pins
Image+Command: Rend Throat: silence + deep wound
Image+Command: Distract: reduces targets damage

Elite Beastmastery WIL(locked)
Image+Elite Beastmastery: tame cooler stuff, reduce cross skill cooldown
Image+Command: Protect(sustain): sustain, when close together pet can redirect attacks to it
Image+Bloodfrenzy(passive): when an nearby enemy gets critically hit by anyone, stacking speed buff for pet
Image+Soul Bond (sustain):ranger and pet share positive, temporary effects like regeneration infusions or bloodfrenzy


Warning:
It may be possible to tame sandworm tunnelers, this should not be tried with serious characters as who-knows-how they will handle combat and they might be impossible to replace.
I have yet to do a full, real game with a ranger, that means they might be imbalanced with a few stray bugs. Please post your thoughts and bugs to improve this class!


Known Bugs:
Some skills dont increase range with better bows.
Leap targeting out of view is buggy.
Pet doesnt properly respect effects like frozen / pinned in some circumstances.
Poison Arrows are not bound to quiver.

Feedback requested:
Boring skills.
Skill balance.
Equilibrium management over the course of the game.
Pet suvival late game.
Do NPC Ranger spawn with a pet?

Future:
Inscription slots for pet through talents, maybe 2.
Make Treat drop on floor for a few turns if it hits nothing
Amulet slot for pets
Better Talent Icons

Compability with other addons:
Improving!
Not too bad if the other addon doesnt overwrite the same files. :P
If the demand is there I can try to make it more compatible with specific addons.

*Really like the idea*

Perhaps think of giving them the lethality tree of rogues... Weird but out there in terms of having bows work like slings (dex+cunning), but getting APR and wilful combat and all the other niceties that goes with it.

Version 2 released:

Bugfixes!
Removed Tame Animal from the talent tree.
Turned Tame Animal into 1 cooldown skill. You start with it and you have to keep using successfully until the target is tame enough, making it (hopefully) no easy task to tame special animals.
Moved the other talents of Beastmastery upwards, so that you can now heal your pet with Treat from level 1, for a smoother early game.
Allowed slings.

Sounds pretty cool, one to keep an eye on.

Edit: meh, limited ammo is horrible and just not fun. Any tips on how to manage? just giving up kiting plox around who 4 shots my lvl3 wolf thing and then kills me while i'm trying to reload, and then he heals while i'm reloading...fun.

Limited ammo is common to all archer classes, but the instant reload with poison arrows is unique to the ranger and can in its current form replace reloading completly as long as you dont use Barrage all the time and have a have a quiver with 30+ size. The quiver you start with can also have between 5 and 12 capacity, sounds like you got unlucky.
Bow/Sling Mastery increased reload speed, and quivers can slowly autoreload on their own or increase reloading speed. I think you can also swap your empty quiver with a full one from inventory for instant reload.

New version released!
-Commands are now all instant use, but set all other commands on cooldown. That means more utility and damage from your pet without sacrificing your own attack damage.
-Misc stuff

I have finally managed to tame a cold drake, and the wretched thing keeps breathing ice on me! How can it be made that it behaves like a summoned hydra, thereby not attacking its owner?

Tamed so far

Snakes... black mamba is best
Spiders .. chitinous is best to date
Dragons..cold Drake best to date
Sandworm.. gigantic gravity worm, but it causes way too much damage to me
Bear..war bear is good, like to try polar

Great add on!

Pets hitting you is on my todo list, experienced it myself. I dont think you can fix that yourself, turning the talent off may work by rightcliking your pet and going to the talent settings, dont know if I enabled that, though.
I made black & white talent icons, but fixing the ai took longer than expected and delayed the new version until tomorrow. :(

I WANT it to breathe ice, just not at me :) :)

Right click for talents is disabled. It would be GREAT to be able to access this.


The sandworm is best to date, gigantic gravity one, but it is very dangerous to be around.

Another request...have ability to set leash length

So yeah, playing it a little. My immediate suggestion!thought was "These guys need a little hat."

Which is to say give them an inventory with a hat slot. Maybe an amulet slot too, to pimp 'em out a lil'. No armor training, though. Only leather caps and wizard hats.

Echoing edge here, too. Naming. We need to be able to name our pets.

Currently only at level 7, but doing alright. Prox and Norgos down; my plan is to avoid the gloom until level 15 (or whenever I can max elite beastmastery) then steal the withered beast. Will be interesting to see if it lets me, and how the shadows turn out.

It turned out you can tame gloomy animals, which is excellent. I'm getting some nice functionality out of a gloom-talent dire wolf, so far, and was delighted when the wolf gained a second t.level of gloom after leveling up with me a couple times. A nice gloom, agony, or tendril wolf/bear-of-some-sort looks like a pretty solid starter creature.

New version made out of 90% pure despair and 10% nescience.

-talent Icons
-party orders for pets
-increased pet ressource regeneration
-tactical ai that is now either good at avoiding hitting the player or even better at killing him! :twisted:

Amulet slot and renaming definitely made it on the todo list.
