Leot's Journey

Now begins the quest to beat ToME using each class on at least Nitemare difficulty. A tall task when I have only beaten the game on Normal once and no other time. This is all stream of consciousness, and one day i will upload it to my website, which does not currently exist. I'm an SEO by profession so I can simply sneeze out a good looking site by accident in no time at all when I have the inclination to do so.
First up we have Possessor.
After looking at the talents Possessors I immediately notice that they are a kind of "melee solipsist". Looking at their powers I also see that they are supposed to be switching between weapon sets.
I see drawbacks:
-Damage subtracts points from my PSI
-Melee bodies are hit often
-Many of the activated abilities cost PSI
-Trying to possess bodies costs PSI
What all of the above means it that in battle a Possessor needs to decide whether it will use a bunch of good combat abilities, or simply use it to continue to switch bodies once one dies. Assume form costs 10 psi so there is a VERY good chance that I would be stuck without any options, no ability to utilize any of my abilities, and a very weak -4 life character. If I'm hit hard enough to need a new body, I better have the PSI to do so right when I need it.
...maybe they won't hit THAT hard
I also notice I have a single Class Point spent in a tree that is no unlocked.
I choose Cornac for it's bonus points and Cat point, and the fact that I like them. The solution to maintaining PSI seems to be a huge amount of healing, which the Fungal Tree will help with nicely.
I'm a pretty redheaded female. The game character is pretty nice looking too.
Three combat trees are based on a two handed weapon, a mindstar and a one handed weapon, and two mindstars. I'm interested in answering the age old question of
"What will keep me alive?"
Psionic Disruption from the Battle Psionics tree is a sustain ability that requires you to have the correct weapon equipped. It has stacking a DoT. It works on bump attacks, but only if you have the correct weapon, and I have learned that it won't switch to the weapons you need to activate the On-Hit effect. In other words: You may end up sustaining a talents you can't currently use.
Force Shield from the Psychic Blows is a sustain ability that grants a max to damage you can take (It says 94% life, is that character life or body life?), grants evasion, and allows you to counter attacks. As above, it will not automatically switch to the required equipment upon being hit.
Knowing the above, these two talents are mutually exclusive.
"What will keep me alive?"
Psychic Blows also has a "Get away from me" panic button? Sold. I'm going there.
I place a point into Solipsism and realize that while it will help me regen PSI faster, it will also cause me to drain it faster as well. As I have that Solipsism threshold I firmly feel that this is, for now, a huge debuff as a good strong hit can have my global speed decrease in a single turn.
I spend my Cat point in Body Snatcher as (WHY WOULD I HAVE A POINT IN A TREE THAT IS LOCKED) more bodies is better than no bodies, and that Psionic Duplication is sexy looking.
I start off with no bodies to use, and a wolf takes me down to half PSI after I use my Psionic CRUSH ability once.
I also learn that I can't possess giants despite having started off with that category unlocked last time. I give it a pass. I'd rather be a fire breathing Ritch or Dragon than a smelly ol' Giant anyway.
