1. On the Mechanics of Rapid Healing
Zemekkys told me to keep a record of all my research, so this is it. If I ever see him again, I can show him this book as proof I'm a good researcher. Zemekkys: I was his apprentice for a good few years, studying the motion of the stars and the flow of time. Eventually, he persuaded me to try one of his experimental farportals. It malfunctioned, unsurprisingly, and I found myself on the lost western continent of Maj'Eyal. I continued my studies, of course.

The common opinion here is that magic and natural forces act in direct opposition to each other, but I am convinced this is not the case. As such, I have been testing interactions between the two. While I've not yet found anything particularly profitable, I did notice an overlap in their spheres: magic, natural forces, and our sun powers all have some form of healing effects. Thus, I've focused my research there, and discovered some interesting side effects I now go to test. There are fungi that grow here, infused with natural power, that interact with regeneration infusions. If placed on the skin, the fungi seem to echo the energies of the infusion, continuing to heal the user after the infusion has run its course. Interesting.

I've traveled from Derth to the Trollmire in the hopes of testing these and other healing magics in an actual combat situation. It'll be good practice for me anyway; I've let my anorithil training grow rusty while studying here.

The results, while hardly a stunning breakthrough, are nevertheless practically quite interesting. The combination of fungi and infusions, with occasional support from the various magical healing I've been testing, has made me very resilient indeed. I cleared out most of the local trolls with little difficulty, scourging them with light and darkness while my fungi repaired my wounds faster than they could dish them out. I found and battled a big swamp-troll, much larger than the rest, and although he repeatedly wounded me grievously, I was able to heal myself with surprisingly little difficulty. (Note: Investigate long-term effects of repeated injury and magical vs. natural re-healing.) While I've heard of much larger trolls deeper in the swamp, I don't think I'll face them yet. A big enough troll might still strike me down in one blow, and I don't think this fungus does resurrections.

Incidentally, I found a gem of sorts. It seems to be capable of some sort of hypnosis, and sharpens my mind somewhat. It doesn't seem to work on the principles of either magic or nature, but something else entirely. I will investigate more at a later date.

I also encountered someone claiming to be my future self. Presumably Zemekkys is/was/will be involved somehow. While future me was rather in a hurry, I had time to teach myself some tricks I had picked up sometime in the future, shortcuts to make spellcasting easier. Actually, I wonder if future me originally learned those from this very meeting - if so, who invented them? An amusing puzzle...

I'm assuming you're an Adventurer (or Hero)?

If so, note that you'll get Harmony unlocked free at a certain point in the game, just like a Wyrmic does.

DitL, yay! I've loved these since ToME 2 some 10 years ago. If only I'd find the time to read this through. We need more of these.

Doctornull: Yes, a Cornac adventurer. I remembered that there was no point to unlocking Harmony as I was finishing the Old Forest, and I decided I might as well just go ahead with it. Amusingly, the reason I picked Cornac instead of, say, Shaloren or Higher, was for that extra cat point to unlock Harmony…
