I had three goals with this character:
  • Try out the new Stone Tree
  • Unlock Oozemancer (hence Thalore)
  • uh, three? Win, I guess
Stone is pretty fun, although I guess hard to get into without strategically shifting classpoints around. I mostly relied on Manathrust and Flame in the early game until I could 5/5 Body of Stone. I kept Manathrust as my backup beam (plus Auger only has range 9 max without a mastery bonus of some sort).

I was planning on the Thalore save bonus (would have gone Dwarf but for goal nr. 2) and the one from Body of Stone to add together for super massive saves, but seems it doesn't actually add saves in 1.0.3. Ghoul would have been ok for 100% stun immunity when stoned with no gear at all, and maybe going heavy armour.

I think my first cat point went to unlock Stone, second for the rune slot, third for Meta.

Meta is a pretty clear choice for a support tree: physical resistance isn't easy enough to find to make it comfortable standing in your own Earthquake, and if you want nice durations/ranges (you do), that is hard to avoid. So 5/5 Spellcraft. If you find Spellbinding gear, that together with Quickened Spells will get your Auger/Missile cooldown to 2 - apparently cooldown reduction is applied after the reduction from BoS, so having better than 33% is where it's at. Metaflow can be very good for when Body of Stone needs to go off cooldown stat, although walling yourself in is a nice alternative.

For Prodigies, I wanted Corrupted Shell for more saves (after Cauterize) but accidentally hit the Grand Corrupter with an Illuminate. So I went Meteoric Crash, since I had the gear to boost the physical half of the damage and I hadn't used it before. Turned out meh: helps with one-shotting through walls which is fun (but not really essential), but the lava it creates can't be walled, which can be annoying during boss fights.

Died twice to an Archmage Orc Beserker stair guardian: first time because I fumble fingered teleport, second time because Disperse Magic is really annoying and Impending Doom is really nasty and I forgot about that status removal talent you get in the east, again.

Other than that the enemy was overconfidence, mostly.
