ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I don't know what causes it but every character I load has the same problem, everywhere I go where there is water the water seems to fill a good part of the screen and the icons of the towns/dungeons don't show up nowhere but on the map if there is water over them, is there a way to fix this or prevent it for future characters?
