ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I feel dumb, but I've not been able to figure out how to use the Occult Egress portal. I've plugged in a code (for the Drem unlock) the portal activates, but I can't figure out how to use it. Are you supposed to be able to enter it or do I have to go elsewhere?

What am I missing?

You go to the middle of the activated portal (using the code in the Northern-most room of the Krushkkur Hidden Sanctuary) and change level. That worked for me. It might be only the centre square that is active.

Btw: I had a Level 14 Higher Writhing One with Worm that Walks servant, and I found the boss quite hard. There were a whole lot of rares too. Maybe it would have been easier if I had focus-fired the Boss, but I thought it might be one of those ones that can only be damaged by killing the other enemies. Anyway, you might find it easy but with the Level 14 Higher Writhing One I found it quite hard and lost one life.

Odd. I try that and it says there is no way out of this level. Maybe I hit a bug?

I made a new character and the portal opened without issue. My other save must be bugged. Will post in bug forum. I thought I was going crazy.
