Odyssey of The Summoner: Spoiler and Discussion

Hello guys, I've finally opened up this spoiler thread for "OoTS". There is much to discuss for this add-on, and many secrets to talk about. Previously, I put a big "X" on spoilers-- But you can talk about it here to your heart's content; I think I'll even join in myself :D

This is the link to the main, NO spoiler thread: THIS LINK
Most of the bugs, issues, and design philosophy are discussed there. However, everything else can be discussed here.

In fact, let me kick this discussion off with a rather big one: :lol:
How many of the "hidden" unlockables have people discovered? There currently isn't any message for when something is unlocked-- My bad... :(

Also:
Are people having an easy time finding the hidden "Hoarding Beast" effects? Are they too obscure? Too obvious? Where does this sit with you...?

There are a few things I have found.

I don't now exactly when or how, but at some point I started being being able to Clasp head equipment and necklaces, as well as rings, gems and mindstars. I think Hellcommander spoiled this one a bit in the main thread, so I assume it is something that has chance to be unlocked when using Clasp? But, yeah, without an unlock message, it's kind of hard to say when it happened :wink:

I found that Consuming the Blood of Life and then using Gluttony will cause it to grant you a passive effect which resurrects you on the spot when you die (i.e. no death message or anything, just restored to full life). That's pretty cool, especially considering the discouraging messages you get when Consuming it.

Consuming the Tooth of the Mouth reports that it will improve biting attacks, but I'm not sure exactly what this does.

I've had a few items with the 'inspect' option that just give a message saying it seems interesting, but you are unsure why. I believe Blood of Life was like this, but other Uniques that gave this message didn't seem to do anything when Consumed or Upchucked. So it's a little confusing what will and what won't do something.

Eating the Heart of the Sandworm Queen is how an Avatar unlocks Burrowing Beast, in case anyone hasn't found that one yet. I suspect corrupting the heart before you eat it would have an interesting result as well, but I haven't had the chance to try it.

One thing that I was hoping would trigger some kind of unlock was siding with the Assassin Lord in the Hidden Tunnels as a Ritch. Considering the theme of the Ritch, the fact that siding with the assassin is utterly pointless after you unlock Poisons, and the fact that Ritch is the Avatar who would get the most benefit from saving the merchant, I figured this would be a good spot for a little hidden surprise, but, sadly, there was nothing.

Here's something interesting: Has anyone inspected The Summoner? If you do you will learn a couple things about them. One, they are apparently a Thalore, and, more interestingly, they know the blighted summoning prodigy. Hmmm... just what kind of Zigur-hated, blight-wielding, Wilder outcast are we dealing with here? Maybe if I ever make it beyond the tier 2 dungeons, I'll find out :lol:

After completing the quest Jogging Memories part 2, you start Jogging Memories part 3, which sends you to a number of the randomly located dungeons in Maj'Eyal. I'm curious how others approach this quest. There is also the ominous, red-lettered warning to not go to Dreadfall at this point, which of course just makes me want to go there even more. I've only made it to this point on one run, and I decided to check out the Ruined Dungeon instead. Sadly, my run ended to one of the guardians.

Also, regarding this point in the story progression, I'm not absolutely sure what all of the dungeons are. I, of course, don't have the quest up at the moment, but I remember that the only one I was 100% certain about was the Ruined Dungeon.

Think that's all I've got. I'm happy to share what I've found with those who don't mind having things spoiled, but I probably won't check up on this thread for a while, as I don't particularly like spoilers myself :P

@nsrr
You stumbled upon a hidden prodigy sir :lol:
That's the Hydra's hidden prodigy called "Hat Trick". It requires 50 Willpower and 1 Prodigy Point, then for you to find a very rare dialog option in the Clasp menu. The effect is simple: It allows the Hydra to clasp Necklaces and Headgear (headgear gives a special, unique message, and are SIGNIFICANTLY harder to clasp).
This talent is EXTREMELY powerful, because some of the best "stackable" effects come from Headgear and Necklaces (as I demonstrated before in the thread, you can get A LOT of good on-hit effects from Necklaces or "Crown of the Elements").

Heheheheh... That was meant to spook the player into thinking they screwed up or something-- But what it, in fact, does... Is makes "Blood of Life" work RIGHT AWAY instead of upon losing your last life. This is EXTREMELY handy for when you're fighting a tough boss and you don't want to lose all your buffs (this is particularly nightmarish for Hydras since they lose ALL their heads)

Eating "Tooth of the Mouth" increases your Physical Power by 10. That's all, really. :)

That message simply indicates that it possesses a "secret" related to "Hoarding Beast". However, this DOES NOT mean your current character can unlock the secret.
As for the "Inspect" message-- That's there as a failsafe for strange situations. For example, you might pick up an object and it will say "This object is NOT interesting"-- But then, you might learn some talent later-- And when you inspect it again, it will say "Actually, this IS interesting now!"

It, MOSTLY CERTAIN, does. I HIGHLY recommend trying it out. :lol:

That's a thought... Hmmm...

I'm SO glad you noticed this. :D

Basically, EVERY other zone you can visit has a special message towards the quest (with exception to race-specific zones). You will run around Maj'Eyal visiting various dungeons looking for "that thing you need". Of course, if you've already played Age of Ascendancy, you already know exactly what you're going to "find" :lol:

Hmm... I may have had 50 Willpower, but I definitely did not have a prodigy point, and I don't remember any dialog from Clasp, either. Hats and Necklaces just started showing up in my options of items to Clasp.

@nsrr
Did some extra inspection of "Clasp", but I can't seem to discern any kind of issues...
Try to replicate that situation... I can't otherwise figure out what exactly happened there... :?

I found a few things I'd like to share that the rest might've missed. The crystal focus 'crystalizes' one of your heads(I am not 100% sure, but it needs to be a feral head to be crystalized), changing the damage scalings from 80% str and 50% Dex to 120% Will and 240% Mag.

The deidara scales(the green dragon cloak) does...something. I couldn't check what it was, since during the transmogrify screen when I was walking out of the dungeon, I dumbly chose 'inspect' which made me lose it.

I was hoping for the fire dragon shield to give out something cool, since y'know, a shield made of scales, but apparently not. bahaha.

One of my friends also reported that the thalore-wood cuirass also 'looks tasty', but he never specified the effects.

Thus far, except crystal focus I haven't found any 'artifact' gemstones, but I suuure hope that they all give cool effects. The one I'm particularly looking forward to get is the http://te4.org/wiki/Goedalath_Rock.

Food for thought: If the crystal focus had an effect...did anybody kill Atamathon to get his ruby eye(activated)? I bet there is some cool effects there, I won't forgive the creator if he didn't put a reward for doing something that hard. :D

@sadisticnerd
There are MANY "consumable" effects to come. They're not all implemented, but every update, I'm sneaking a few in. No worries. :D

By the way, "Fire Dragon Shield" is one that's on my list (I think the recipient of said effect is going to be rather obvious) :lol:

Edit: Crap... "Inspect" DOES close the menu, doesn't it?? I probably shouldn't let that happen in case people are transmogrifying things... :?

I swallowed Heart of Sandworm Queen and nothing happened.
Same for Serpent's Glare. In the past, the second one gave special effect.

What could be wrong....?

My hydra run ate a serpent's glare and received access to Spit Poison. I'm not sure if there was anything else.
(I was breath focused, so I appreciated it =D)

@astralInferno
... Doesn't "Spit Poison" scale on the higher of your Strength/Dexterity...? :?

Yes, all of mine have as well, except the current one :-(

@jenx
Could be something I accidentally bugged. Let me double check if it's working correctly.

Update: I have confirmed this is still working exactly as intended-- Although, I have added a nice buff to this for the next update. :D

SPOILER: Mindstars can harmonise on Hydra. Just keep moving them in and out until you get a pair to work, lol.

Even with these spoilers, there is still too much about this addon that is frustratingly cryptic.

I don't think the balance is right yet between finding things out and being continually stumped.

And just putting info into the spoiler here is besides the point. Players will want to work out what they can themselves, but having played hundreds of hydras, I still can't work out many aspects of this class.

SOLVED: you need to Clasp it, not eat it. LOL
