ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Can someone give me a basic breakdown of this weapon? I'm really confused by it.

first off, it seems crazy powerful. like, better than higher tier weapons due to the myriad of effects it stacks onto enemies.
then there is the glow/trails... plus the interaction with npcs.

and unless i'm crazy, it also unequips itself sometimes and equips a different weapon (in my case, acera). at least, i'm pretty sure it does... i know i didn't equip acera myself.

Yes, it's really powerful, especially if you have high mindpower.
As for the unequip, it shouldn't happen. You must have clicked Acera's skill icon on your hotbar and it equipped the weapon.

Anyway, yeah, my Tier 4 Anmalice seems to outdo my Tier 5 Wintertide in pretty much every way due to the stacked effects. My willpower is only 45, I'm about to go to the Far East, and that doesn't seem particularly high. Perhaps I'm just not giving the Wintertide enough of a chance, but the potential to silence or otherwise mentally cripple troublesome rares/bosses is invaluable.

I totally don't understand the effects on NPCs though.

Tier of the item doesn't always reflect the truth.
If you see a new effect on enemy mouseover tooltip you can right click and inspect the enemy and get explanations for the effects.
