ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I am stuck on High Peak level 10. I have killed everything on level 10 except the Lady from the town. Since I failed earlier, I had to fight her but let her live. I have found the portal on level 10. I cannot get it to work. I do not seem to be able to get off this level. What do I need to do to activate this portal? Am I missing something? I only have the Rod of Recall and my equipment. Any HELP would be appreciated. Thanks. -- RHC
