high number of attacks per round vs dmg when hit enemies

Ive been trying to think of a solution to this:
some characters: time warden, marauder, etc, can get a lot of melee attacks per round, the problem is, a mob or a unique with a high dmg every time you hit him is going to Insta-kill you if you do that (without a dmg shield or sometimes even with one)
Does anybody know any strategies? I have already insta-died several times just by flurrying a mob, seems to me archers have a significant advantage over melees when it comes to many attacks per turn.
is it dispelable? or avoidable?
