arcane resistance

The Aether Permeation prodigy looks interesting, but looking through my pile of artifacts I don't see much that provides arcane resistance. Are there any good/reliable sources of arcane resistance for archmages, or is the prodigy mostly intended for AM?

I think there's a Higher racial talent that raises Arcane resistance, but I don't know by how much when maxed

The Higher talent (25%), the Void Orb (15%), the Crystal Heart (35%!). Ureslak's Femur if you just hold it and don't attack (45%). The Hat of Arcane Understanding (20%). Aetherwalk (15%).

It's not interesting cuz' only half of the arcane resistance is transformed into other resistances. 35% resist is not too much. I won't pick the prodigy unless it changes at least 75% arcane res to other res.

My Thalore Paradox Mage with a res of 65% cold and 30% all. Still get instagibbed by Elandar with a crit freeze, it hits me for 1700. Luckliy I had backed up game data or I would be driven mad. It's just nightmare difficulty. I cant imagine what it will looks like in insane difficulty.

Then again, insane difficulty is meant to be unwinnable by design. Just making it to Elandar would mean you've either triggered the permanent Eidolon protection glitch, exploited the bejeesus out of some other massive exploit, or are the greatest (and luckiest) gamer in the history of roguelikes.

You can also get temporary Resist Arcane from talents. Specifically, when your Disruption shield overloads you get 75%+ Resist Arcane for a few turns.

I'm still theorycrafting, but I imagine iff you're an archmage with Arcane and Aether, you can probably get some good mileage out of Aether Premeation. Opening the fight with Aether Avatar allows you to use Disruption Shield regardless of what your mana level is. Then once Aether Avatar runs out and the shield blows you get Resist Arcane up to your resist cap and a good chunk of resist all on top of it.

You could probably make a pretty good Higher adventurer build by combining Arcane, Aether, Necrosis (Impending Doom is arcane damage; liches have increased resistance caps) and the Aether Premeation prodigy. This is assuming that an adventurer can take the prodigy in the first place.

That may very well be the case. Like I said, i was just theorycrafting.
