So my level 15 arcane blade stumbled upon this poison ooze in the sandworm lair. A few turns later it had split into 4 oozes with the full 350 something hp and poisoned me to death... several times as I tried to scramble and pick up the sandworm queen's loot before dying again.
Aren't they supposed to split hp too? And what is a level 25 monster doing there in the first place? It didn't come out of a glowing chest or anything... Not the first level 25 ooze I saw there too, but I managed to kill the last one with great difficulty.

I think oozes copy their parent's HP when they split off, so a wounded ooze should produce wounded children. Except for the times when they don't. Or is that jellies? I dunno.
Having lost a promising character to an oozing horror recently, I sympathize.

The only exception to the ooze copying that I have noticed is with named oozes spawning non-named oozes, so at least a unique ooze with a nasty talent combination doesn't pass those talents to it's spawn.

Heh, fortunately. It wasn't always the case. That was an interesting version...

I've often noticed oozes split with full HP. Not sure if it's intended or not.

Yes. I would estimate probably 90% of the oozes split with current HP, but the rest get full HP.
