I Massacred the post-dreadfell Orcs; how do I move on now?

All in the title. I killed everything in the ambush easily (skeleton bulwark OP) and it created an exit to world map that simply put me back at dreadfell. I tried going to the ghost dude in the fortress and to the 2 archwizards in Anglowen but they have no comment on the staff (though Lilaniil is still on urkis dialog), and I can't possibly equip it to use it anywhere (req 60 magic, I have 10).
So what do I do to get to the east?
P.S. I've never actually gotten to the east before. This is the 4th time I've beaten dreadfell, but the first 2 times the staff pick up glitched and the ambush event didn't occur, and the 3rd time I beat the orc boss but then died to the others (didn't know not to kill him at the time.) So obviously, I also don't know what happens if you die to the orc boss, I assume it somehow just puts you in the east, or on a path there, but if it is something else that knowing would make this question stupid, well don't bite my head off. :p
