ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Hello all:

I got to the (Sher'tul) fortress, and I think I remember an entrance to the slightly NE of the forest. (This is the same character---still alive.)

That > isn't on the map for me anymore. Is it supposed to be and if so, any idea how I can get it back?

I just managed to upgrade the rod---maybe I misremembered how the fortress works...
