ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I've seen many references to a LUA console in posts, but nothing clears how to activate it. I want to test what you can get by using the Crystal Focus on the Voratun Hammer of the Deep Bellow with a character, but since I've already used the Crystal Focus with that character, I'd like to generate another one via the console.

So how do you activate it?

Using the console is tied into with activating cheat mode.

Also, AFAIK, Crystal Focus can only be used on plain items (i.e. artifacts, ego items - basically items with colored names - can't be combined with it). Anyway, I'm not sure. Still playing the game.
