Mobs with exceedingly deadly AI

Here's my list:
Bloodmages (

)
Orc High Pyromancers (yes they get their own mention)
Skeleton Archers
Skeleton Master Archers (*$@$%^%$#^@)
Orc Archers (*@&#^^$%&^%&!@#@ to those that accompany Ukruk)
Orc Cryomancers/Pyromancers/High Cryomancers
Elven Corruptors (interestingly, I think orc don't attack 1 in 1)
The common theme with these guys is their 1 in 1 attack once they get into line of sight. In precise angband-speak, they're non-unique Cantoras's.
I think there is a place for such deadly creatures, but perhaps in places such as the Crypt, they need to be spaced out a bit more? I admit to completely shamelessly stair-scumming the 4th level of the Crypt over and over again as the first twenty times stepping down the steps, I was surrounded by at least 3 cultists, 2 bloodmages, warriors and a host of minor demons. On something like the 21st scum, I managed to deal with 8 wretchlings and 2 quasits.
Also in the Ukruk fight, they are IMHO by far the deadliest mobs, hands down. IF you manage to get them down, the rest of the fight is pretty cake, unless you're severely undergeared.
Anyone else have his or her own mobs, rants, slants, and warnings? Let's hear them!

Just to note that the threat of archers can be diminished significantly with decent armor. The threat of pyro/cryomancers can be diminished significantly with appropriate resists. Bloodmages and corrupters I'm still not quite sure how to handle.

Getting a suit of radiant armour saved up for blight resistance helps a lot when you know you will be going up against them

Fair point, and probably the best available right now is Rogue's Plight, with its +35% blight resistance.
The REAL killer though, as my still-living Cursed can attest to, is their Curse of Vulnerability on top of their nasty spells. Unless you have retardedly high resistance to blight (which is extremely difficult), you can't really trump that curse. I lost almost 1600 HP in 3 rounds after I got hit by the curse. Unless you're certain of a kill within 1-2 rounds, you'd better port away after getting cursed.

I cursed when after a cursory glance under my cursor I saw my cursed was cursed with a nasty curse. Curses!

Personally, I just make sure that one of my infusion slots is filled with a wild infusion that covers disease, curse, and hex (and, of course, poison). A turnless action nets you no curse, and a moderate damage resistance for the next few rounds. Helps a lot.

Interesting...I guess I should read the tooltip of the wild infusions more closely. I thought they were only supposed to cure poison and disease. Do they vary in the debuffs they cure as well?

Up to seven types (poison, disease, curse, hex, magical, physical, mental). I usually try to find one that covers at least the first four and use it as a cure.

So you are actually upset with Curse of Vulnerability? Well, it's a hell of a talent, and the player can get it if playing a Reaver or Corruptor. It's powerful, it's meant to be powerful, but on it's own it can't kill you. Always have an escape plan. I wish there were more ways to break LOS, but other than have a teleport rune on, that's about all you can do.

Nope, never mentioned I was actually upset about curse of vulnerability. I also do indeed realize that it's a really nice reaver and corrupter talent. Now if I could only keep a reaver alive long enough to actually get it and use it...

1 for 1 creatures are pretty deadly but they're also fairly common in T4. Zonk had a nice run in with some 1 for 1 critters with no cooldown on their ability recently and lost his berserker to them.
Poor Zonk.
