Is roguelike much harder than adventure?

When I was playing mainly on adventure, I thought that main difference with roguelike is that latter require almost perfect execution and the former just allow you to made a couple mistakes. Otherwise I've seen no difference. But when I switched on roguelike, I understood that my behaviour changed, e.g: not trying to do Dark Crypt any more, tend to take defensive prodigies instead of offensive ones and so on. It seems that permadeath setting affects not only how careful I'm playing, but also my build, my gear and my level. Now I'm curious, how huge difference in difficulty it makes from your experience?10.0.0.0.1 192.168.1.254
