Ideas needed for addon class talents

#1 Post by Erenion »

So, I've started working on some more addon classes - and I've (temporarily) run out of ideas for talents.

The classes are the Witness - an afflicted class based around mental debuffs, especially fears and the Ravaged - a "fallen" Temporal Warden.

I've already got some trees:
  • Cursed/Whispers - a tree based around reducing mental save and fear resistance
  • Cursed/Mindflaying - exploiting mental debuffs
  • Cursed/Gazes - inflicting debuffs in a cone, with a moss-like theme (instant, but puts all other talents in the tree on a short cooldown)
  • Chronomancy/Bladeweaving - using what is left of your temporal skills to attack multiple enemies at once
  • Chronomancy/Hateful Chronomancy - the "key" category for Ravaged. I still need some talent ideas for this
So basically, I need ideas for defensive and trees for Witness and a lot of talent trees and individual skills for Ravaged.
Plus some "anomalies" - except that they should definitely be detrimental.

Feel free to post any ideas that you have.

If you want to make a 'fallen' temporal class someone should really pick up the old Temporal Apostate idea. That was going to be the next Chronomancer before Edge left the team.

Ravaged ideas:
-A tree built around destroying an enemy's life moments, giving them amnesiac effects or regression.
-Summoning of interdimensional beings by putting holes in just the right places. If you're unlucky, they shoot you because they were looking for you.
-You get stronger as Paradox piles up, or as anomalies make their presence.
-Instead of Temporal Hounds, a companion of which you have influenced their life by your being there during certain events (no, not like Pond).

So, some plans that I have now:

- (Sort of) implement the Schism tree from Temporal Apostate.
- The "stronger as anomalies appear" is actually already part of a planned mechanic - I'll explain below.
- The "being you've influenced" idea might get implemented as an anomaly - the "Nemesis" backlash

Explanation: Power and Twist
The Ravaged is going to have two new "stats". The lore behind these is that you were cursed by your fellow Wardens, so that whenever you used your power, it would fall back onto you.
Because of this, you had lost most of your chronomancy powers by now, but you still have the aptitude for them.
This is where Power comes into play. Basically, as you level up your chronomantic abilities, you gain Power. And this stat is what your chronomantic powers (mostly) scale of.
So the more you use your powers, the stronger they become (lorewise).

Twist is a different thing entirely. Basically, this is what turned you into a "fallen" Warden - it is the corruption and madness that such incredible power brings.
Twist is gained through leveling up certain skills as well - but mostly only those skills that are "evil".
As you gain Twist, certain new talents unlock - more powerful ones as you gain more Twist - and existing talents "upgrade". Plus some of your talents scale with Twist as well as Power.
However, this comes at a price: Backlashes. Remember when I was talking about that curse earlier?
Yeah. Exactly that is what happens. As you gain Twist, you have a incrementing chance to cause Backlashes - these are like anomalies, except they are always bad for you.
And just like with the new skills that Twist unlocks, as you gain more Twist, you unlock new Backlashes as well...

I love all of these. Some incomplete ideas:

Chronomancy / Chronovore
Illithic Burst - Consume parts of your enemies' timelines, sapping both their strength and their memory. (basic skill for this tree, saps stats/saves/res in a pbAOE and adds them to player, diminishing returns based on how many creatures affected)
Stygian End - Illithic Burst now drains X% more of every stat from each enemy affected.
Aboleth - After Illithic Burst wears off, X% (up to 50%) of the player's increased values persist until Illithic Burst is used again, at which point they are recalculated.
Chronovore - Illithic Burst also reduces your paradox (increases it maybe? It really depends how much this class plans to depend on high paradox) per enemy hit.

Chronomancy / Outsiders
I dunno what to put here other than Malign Gateway from DCSS. I really want to put Malign Gateway in this. It's just way too perfect. I don't even know what else to put in here. Maybe some Modrons?

Chronomancy / Volatility
Twitchy Timeline - Fold Paradox into your weapons, a la Weapon Folding. Adds extra temporal damage to weapon attacks based on current paradox, as well as increasing paradox per hit.
Reckless Luck - Gain a power boost to all anomalies. Triggering an anomaly no longer consumes the turn that it triggered on (basically, you trigger the anomaly but still get to make the attack that triggered it). They usually tend to not hit you. Usually.
Unstable Chain - Every anomaly triggers another anomaly once per turn. At TL5, it can trigger two.
Unraveler - All anomalies cause an AoE burst of X Temporal damage on their location when triggered. If the target fails a spell save, they take X temporal damage and are also slowed and dazed for Y turns.

Chronomancy / Fatebound Servitor
I actually don't have anything interesting for this tree other than the cool name. I picture it being like the Squire from Deathknight.
Let slip the toast of war.

Well, Malign Gateway gets put in. Good idea. It'll probably go into the "unlocked by Twist" talents, though (so it's not getting it's own category, sorry.)

Actually, on second thought, I'll scrap Power. Twist alone is probably enough.
