It looks like water currently. I tried, and breathe in water items don't prevent you from choking. Luckily my Normal Roguelike Brawler had a teleportation rune and a Blood of Life active so I could last 12 turns from when I died once. Look at these cool artifacts I got from Sandworm Tunnels chests!
