Currently, plate armor gives more defense than light armor which seems... counter intuitive? Not really sure if a change is needed here, but if there should be one, the change should be swapping the defense values for plate tier and leather tier armor.

For this one you have to consider what it means for armour to give defense anyway.
Unless it is magical in some way, it isn't helping you dodge. Dodging comes from you.
So what it is actually doing is increasing the chance for a 'glancing blow' which is effectively a miss.
