I'd like to be able to set up filters on the Inventory

I tend to play characters with high strengths and correspondingly high encumbrances. And as I'm a hoarder, my inventory becomes a bit unwieldly. Even with the profusion of colours, it would be great if i could filter my inventory by clicking on the columns at the top of the window. "Show me all my shields", "Show me all my artefacts", "Show me items with a weight above 10 so I can junk some of them".
P.S.: Sorry in advance for the avalanche of incoming ideas. I've just returned to the game and I'm really into it right now.

i am fairly certain, you can already click on the top of the column to set a "priority" for sorting.
like if you click the weight column it should sort in order, and if you click elsewhere it should sort by that.
as for "show me x"... by default, all items are already first sorted by type, and then other things.
if you are looking for artefacts, you just have to look for yellow or orange.

This is sorting, which I was aware of. My idea is for filtering, so as to hide items I'm not interested in seeing at a particular point in time.
Thanks.

Like Radon26 said, there's already a button at the top of the inventory to only show all weapons, all armor, all tools, all.. You get the point. But seriously, the items are already sorted by type. If you don't want to see other items... Don't look at them?

Not the same thing at all. Also, items in the chest cannot even be sorted by the existing categories, much less by what the player actually cares about.
Filter for sources of a specific stat regardless of slot
Filter for a specific slot
Filter for weapons that fit one or more specific mastery categories (eg. an archmage may only be interested in staves even if he doesn't have the staff mastery skill while a temporal warden may be interested in weapons, daggers, and bows)
Filter for inscriptions of a specific type
Filter for a specific ammo type
Filter for charms with a specific effect
Filter for items in the transmutation chest that supersede currently equipped items (eg. a better instance of the same ego(s) or a double ego or randart that includes the single ego)
Filter for stuff that falls into one of several pre-selected filter categories that represent "stuff I want to look at before transmuting, but is hard to find because I have four pages of junk after raiding a vault".
Definitely not features that are already available.

Just to add on to my idea, I'd love to be able to filter by "powered by". I'm often interested in anti magic items, for example. But since my transmogification chest can be HUGE after a big dungeon level, being able to quickly find those items would be helpful.

I'm not against the idea, I'm just against how cluttered it may cause the UI to become. Even if it's a drop down menu, it sounds like a UI nightmare!

hmm. being able to specifically target or dismiss "powered by:x" would be useful. i agree on that.

I'd say that "Powered by ..." filter could come in handy. Maybe place it somewhere to the right from standart sorting panel:

Not sure about this. As for me, this is way too complex and would have not so many uses.

It would be useful any time you're sorting through large amounts of loot (eg. from a vault) and are only interested in some of it. Let's take for example
http://te4.org/characters/196166/tome/9 ... 893fb66866 because she looks like a decent example.
She is invested in Dual Techniques and is not an ogre, therefore all two handed weapons are uninteresting.
She is not building will, therefore mindstars are uninteresting.
She already has Morrigor and is a high magic build, therefore all one handed weapons with the possible exception of short staves are uninteresting.
She already has Umbraphage. I know I stop looking at lamps when I have either that or the Pearl of the Deep.
She is still using Untouchable at level 41, which probably means she values its unique effect so highly she is uninterested in any armor.
She is almost certainly uninterested in a manasurge, physical wild, or movement infusion that does not improve upon those she already has either in duration or cooldown.
She is uninterested in sun infusions because everyone is uninterested in sun infusions.
She may be uninterested in other inscription types because they do not fit her build. In her place I would eschew phase door and teleport runes since she has the spells for example.
Now imagine she's just looted a major vault. She has two pages of stuff in her transmogrification chest. Most of it is either useless to her build, useless in general, or useless because she already has the best possible item for its slot, or unambiguously inferior to something she already has (eg. a manasurge rune with a longer cooldown and weaker effect than the one she already has).
Complicated it may be, but custom filtering definitely has uses.

Maybe manually check items one by one in this case would be even faster, because configuring such advanced filter will turn into freaking nightmare. I agree that could be some basic filtering (powered by + a bit more), but totally not so monstrous one as you mentioned. I can't even imagine how this thing would look like if we want to cover every single item feature in it. There must be golden mean.

i think you could just open another window, where you could select keywords for an argument. (or whatever the right word)
for example
new commant/
"auto tramsognify"/ -item, power, quality?
item/ - type?
shield/
tier: i[x], s[x], ds[x], s[x], v[]
or
new command/
"auto transmogrify"/ -item, power, quality?
quality: w[x], g[x], b[], r[], o[], y[]
exception/ - armour, arms, jeweelry, inscriptions?
jewelery

I like the idea of on-the-fly filtering / searching supported by a text input box.
More buttons is probaby a bit hard to pull off.
