Invisibility and Lights

So, i was playing online and i asked Stuntofthelitter 'why does stealth hide your light for you, but casting invisibility, doesn't?' his reply was 'dunno, that's just the way things are'
Why do i need to spend a turn to take my light off before or after casting invisibility, an expensive sustain that also drains mana and reduces the amount of damage i deal, when stealth, a similar skill with few costs automatically hides my light for me?
Shouldn't the super-smart mage, y'know, just stuff his lantern in his pocket just as easily as the sneaky rogue does?
