Vile Summoner quest...

This is a quest solely for magic users and anyone with at least one magic ability (such as from an escort)… they're forced to face a powerful anti-magic summoner.

In theory, I would like this quest to be comparable in difficulty to the Urikis quest but at a higher level. I was thinking that this could be in the east…

Essentially, it would by a level populated with the enemies that Summoners can summon and at the end, there would be an extremely powerful Summoner with anti-magic and fungus.

This boss, unlike most, would have great healing ability but not very many hps… after all, Summoners are hard enough to kill.

The reward would be a stash magic gear that the Summoner was intending to destroy.

Why magic only? Vile Summoner makes me think this guy (or girl) has gone to the dark side of nature, so antimagic characters would want him (her) dead too. They could receive an equal stash of antimagic gear by compelting the natural cleansing that was going to be done by the VS, just without the blighted aspects. And it'd be fairer to the AM guys, so they don't lose out on a quest just for taking AM.

The only issue is that, yet again, this quest is by far easier for AM characters. Aura of Silence and Manclash made Urkis easy, and now the main strengths of the boss are utterly useless against you, making the VS little more than a random Summoner.

Re: Vile Summoner boss… similar to Oozemancer quest.

I just wanted a Summoner boss… that's it.

The details are somewhat incidental to me but in this game you can do battle with a lot of tough classes but not really a Summoner outside of a random battle. That was all I was thinking.

Maybe make it a quest that only pops up after the Scar of the Spellblaze, and if you've sided with the Grand Corruptor, you can go to him to face this boss. Otherwise, you have to go back to either Zigur (for one of theirs who has betrayed them) or Angolwen. If you go to the Grand Corruptor, you can get the Vile Summons class tree (need to make it up), while if you go to the other two, they'll give you something else, or maybe whoever you go to will give you an artifact reward themed by that group (i.e. blight/demons, antimagic, or elemental magic).

Make it a quest that happens if the Sludgenest doesn't happen -- actually, yeah, maybe have ~5 different high-level optional zones and you get one of them always, but you don't get to pick which. 20% chance of each, except Thalore who always get Sludgenest for whatever reason.

- Sludgenest
- Summoner
- Gloomy Psychic Rogues
- The Dracolich
- Demon Cats: the Musical

There's also the Caldera, which I believe Yeeks always get regardless. And the Sludgenest and Caldera are currently tied to unlocks, but others could be tied to future unlocks.

I really dislike the totally random dungeons, especially tied to unlocks. I've only ever gotten the Caldera once (can't get a Yeek that far) and for some reason the dreams that allow you to unlock Solipsist didn't happen, so I've just got to keep running over and over, getting Sludgenest and waiting for it to spawn.

For me personally, I'd want the dungeons to simply be mutually exclusive. If there are that many, perhaps you can only do two before all the others get completed by other adventurers, or each one you complete causes another to shut down. Alchemists' potions, in dungeon form.

Then you really dislike the base ToME game, I guess?

That's fine but it is off topic for this thread entirely.

The randomly appearing dungeons, if that wasn't made clear. I think you've told me before, DoctorNull, that intentionally misunderstanding someone's statements is rather poor form. :P

It takes away choices about where to go, something you normally have a lot of freedom with in ToME. You can do T1, T2, and all the other dungeons in any order you so choose, including skipping right to Dreadfell if you're amazing at ToME/suicidal. Sludgenest and the Caldera appearing later in the game is fine (though it might be nice to adjust it so you're more likely to catch it before going to the East), but the fact that you only get one and you cannot choose which one is what irks me.

So, to reiterate what I stated above, if there are more randomly appearing dungeons like Sludenest or the Caldera, I would rather it be made they mutually exclusive dungeons rather than randomly picking one dungeon from a growing pool of total dungeons.
