He currently will only let you join him if you have learned 10 different spells.
I suggest that he should give you the offer instead if you have ~20 ranks of spells.
This would bring Corrupted Shell in line with other prodigies like Never Stop Running and Windtouched Speed, making it possible (though a little difficult) for classes which don't start with spells to get it.
