Friends List

Could a friendslist be added? It would be a good addition and would help to further bring the community together. As a new player of ToME I for one really enjoy the chat and would like to keep track of people that I could consider friends, instead of happening to run into them in the chat.

I've pondered that, but what would it change to have somebody on your friend list ?
I mean what effects should it have ?

You could get an alert whenever your friends enter/leave the game, and an option to recieve achievement messages for just your friends would be kind of cool. Just off the top of my head. Also, either a list on entering game, or somewhere to check a list, of what friends are online. Of course, sometimes I'd like the option to hide as well, if we do that.

You can already check if someone is on, in the chat box just type there name, followed by a colon and a space. If it doesn't change to a whisper mode for that person, then they aren't on. If they ARE on, it blanks the chat line, and changes the channel to be a whisper to that one individual.

That'd require memorizing their full name, some of which can have random numbers and stuff like that in them. Also, it's a rather roundabout way compared to the requested feature.

This sounds like something that would be obsolete if tome passed steam greenlight.

If. :-/ Also, not quite, since it's asking for a friends list within the client itself, not using Steam's integration.

I can personally see the value of such a friends list in ToME. Not the most vital feature, but it would be handy to have.

Not everyone'll be using Steam to use ToME, let alone using its community features. I support this idea.

A friends list if one were to go through would just be a convience nothing that important to the actual game

Steam chat doesn't replace all ingame chat. Ingame chat often has more features (thematic channels, achievement alerts, donator status) that Steam has no interest in replacing.

^THIS. I have no steam account, and absolutely no plans to get one. Beside the fact that 90% of steams material is 'pay for digital content with no physical medium' AS WELL as too high end for my PC to run, coupled with some stories I've heard about problematic DRM, Steam won't be getting business from me. ToME greenlight, or no.

I highly support this idea. ToME has a great community and this would make it easy for me to remember the nice people I meet every day in chat. :)
