Obvious spoilers, so do not read if you don't want them.

From what we learn during the game from the Sher'Thul, it appears that most of the titans/godlike beings were not having a care about anything around them and were enjoying fighting each other endangering the world in their wake.

But from the Sher'Thul fortress we learn that Amakthel was actually different, so powerfull that none of the other titans/gods was challenging him he had then no warring to do (because none was able to do so with him).
He was then certainly more busy creating (things things like the Sher'Thuls), until his creation were so thirsting for power that they managed to create items able to banish Amakthel into some otherwordly prison.

One may then think that Amakthel may have created them exactly for this purpose : having none able to challenge him maybe his existence was boring him, so he created something that would be able to put an end to that boredom.
Though it misfired and the Sher'Thul weren't able to put an end to Amakthel, probably the problem with being too powerfull to be completely destroyed.

So here's the idea :

In the end of the game you have the sorcerers trying to open the door to eventually what could be Amakthel prison.
What if you could choose to actually side with them and making sure that it really open the correct door instead of freeing more of the horror from beyond you run into most dungeons.

But Amakthel being freed would not solve his own eternal problem : none can destroy his boredom, none can destroy him.

And noticing that the player at that point of the game is actually the most potent thing around (having destroyed half of the world population in orc and monsters around), Amakthel would task him with :
- find his lost limbs, just because he may have grown to regret them ;) or because it would empower the player more in order to what will follow :
- avenge him and destroy the remaining Sher'Thul for having failed him.
- face him with all his might and succeed in where the Sher'Thul have failed.

Now in term of gameplay , it would in fact unlock an alternate Infinite Dungeons mode, that would play roughly the same as the current one but would :
- generate the remaining Sher'Thul at some specific levels
- generate the limbs as loot (in possession of the remaining Sher'Thul)
- generate Ralkur in the end (that would have possession of the last limb)

Basically an Infinite Dungeon that wouldn't be infinite but would have an actual goal , story and end.

And once the player would obtain every limbs , a portal to the final battle would then appear instead of the stair for the next floor.

I really like the idea, but I think it would be better as another unlocked campaign rather than the changing the current infinite dungeon. Some people like the current infinite dungeon as is and would gave more game play options after the first win.

Minor note: I believe the Sorcerors are attempting to summon Gerlyk, not Amakthel. Gerlyk is mentioned in the human myths as the god who "walked into the darkness"--ie, fled to the Void to escape the Sher'Tul. Horrors are Amakthel's calling card, and the High Peak doesn't have a disproportionate amount of those.
