ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Currently a new player must get fairly far in to the game to get the transmo chest. This seems remarkably unfair for one of the best elements of the game's user interface. New players are forced to use the horribly tedious shop system until then, and many players will never get that far after months of play.

So I propose putting the unlock in Bill's treasure stash. The text would need to be tweaked to remove reference to the fortress and just say it's a magic item (seemingly Sher'Tul) that turns items to gold. One would of course only find it once - in games after the unlock you automatically start with it.

Alternatively just make it active at the start of the game.

I wouldn't limit it just one spot, though. Not everyone starts in the trollmire and they might be too high level for it when they get there. Instead, I'd just give a percent chance for it to drop from any of the tier 1 bosses, so that you're almost sure to get it by the time you get to the tier 2 dungeons.

Good idea, DGrey. Bill's Lair sounds like a good place to me... and maybe add some note about how items he stores in the chest keep disappearing, making him even more violent and untrusting

Heck, somehow I think there's a complicated relationship between Prox and Bill that we just don't know about...

Y'now, it kind of fits. Bill's lair always has gems and gold in piles sitting around, neatly organized... Perhaps the transmo chest explains this? Maybe bill tried to use it as a cookpot, and it kept spitting out inedible gold when he tried to cook in it? (And the gold/gems are always centered around the cookpot too...)

Obviously, we just need some new lore to explain this. *pointedly looks away from Grey*
