Not necessarily high quality - although I don't think 'store level'loot would be overpowered since you're losing out on permanent stat or talent bonuses - but it makes sense and provide a small consolation prize and/or reason to kill them if for some reason you don't feel like saving or sending them to Zigur.

How about one piece of equipment, of the same quality as adventurers get three of?
If they have it equipped they might have a better chance of surviving too.
