game save file location

I would like to request the save game folders be created in the t-engine main directory vs. saving in the user directory. My primary intent is so that the game can be portable and less computer dependent - and not have to move your save directory with you when you change to another computer.

Is it feasible to create an option that tells the program whether to save the file in the default user directory or in the game directory to make it portable; or to specify the directory where the save/setting are to be stored?

Regards.

I think that if anything is changed, it should simply be to allow user to specify the location other than the default. For us OSX users, the user directory is the logical place for the saves to go.

Thanks for the link on the instructions. But for those who are less adept at using the command line or not want to create additional online accounts, it's easiest to just extract a zip file and double click the application to play. In light of this, I would still pursue my original request of having the save/profile being the main game directory, allowing things to be self contained.

But this goes against all latest OSes design. User data should be in user folder.

One could have the game check if a user folder exists within the T-Engine directory, and if not seek the centralised user folder. That way if people want self-contained options and saves they could just create a directory called "user" (or whatever) and copy files over between betas.

Perhaps it does go against the latest os design, and I can't force you to change your thoughts, only present mine to you. The strategy for placing user data in the user folder is for apps that are meant or intended to be installed on that particular machine, initially meant for apps requiring license and registration, tying them to one machine, and allowing each user to access the apps while using their own preferences. There are portable apps available, which allow apps and preferences to be taken along on external drives - both freeware and payware, each with their own licensing schemes. I've always seen design requirements as guidelines and not as something that should be staunchly followed as restrictions - everything is situational. I will stop before I sound any more like a preacher. Anyhow, like I said, it's a request - a want and not a need - I don't intend to pressure you anymore with this, since I do enjoy the game you've made. Looking forward to b39.

Regards.
