Could darkgod, or someone, develop a ranking system for players, that averaged their points per character per campaign+difficulty+mode+addon, and which allowed users to filter on columns, such as class or race?
I'm not sure how you would eliminate cheating.
This would add a great dimension to the game.

We've worked on this in the past and it has proven to be a very difficult thing to do unbiasedly.

Is it worth trying again though?
It's a common feature in games with online days storage.

I honestly believe so, but like so many other accessory aspects of the game, it would require a decent amount of community backing and help to be done 'right'.

The idea certainly seems worth merit, as it would be (greatly) fun. The Chat is already one of the best features of the game in many players' views, and friendly competition and bragging rights would be AWESOME.
No harm in brainstorming huh?

An extensive system could be put together that may or may not favor a few classes (though certainly some classes obviously would outrank others...) or we could have a much simpler (albeit less fun) system, where a monthly contest could take place where we nominate and then vote on the most powerful characters/players. It would also be a great way to get people to share build ideas and get good characters for new players to look at.

I think the simplest approach is to make it achievement-based. Tracking game-wide statistics and using that to develop the score will probably always be abusable.
