Currently the tooltips appear right over whatever you hover on, obscuring the NPC or item in question. I suggest instead they should hover slightly to down and to the right - say 32x32 pixels away.

Agreed. A delay would be nice too. It can be a nightmare to select items and such so far, because as soon as the mouse goes over something, you can't see anything any more.
