Stealth, wonderful stealth...

I play shadowblades exclusively (until I win one at least, have one at level 35 in 20b). I like the stealth implementation, some have complained about the greyed out screen, personally I kind of like it. One thing I have noticed that might be able to be tweaked is when exploring any sort of cavernous area. while I have heightened senses I can see basties that are looking to kill me... if only because I tend to want to explore every nook ofa level it is frustrating to not be able to see walls.

I was thinking about maybe tweeking the hide in plain sight or unseen actions skill (maybe give a reason to level hide in plain sight) to give wall and maybe even item vision outside of the present 1 square. It makes sense to me, ie even though you are sneaking around trying to go unnoticed, as you become very skilled you should also be able to observe your environment without others knowing you are doing it. Honestly a stealthed person should be able to see BETTER than someone else because they are paying attention to the slightest details around them to make sure they do not give away their presence.

With a high enough infravision radius you will properly see more than 1 square. I think it's something like a quarter of your total infravision radius, rounded down. You can increase infravision with Hymn of Detection, Heightened Senses, Skin of Many (which ironically is bad for stealth) and some ego equipment.

Potentially though perhaps Heightened Senses should improve the amount of base sight you get when going solely infravision at higher talent levels. This would make it less of a one point wonder as well as helping stealthy rogues.

I am testing this, but in my experience I never see more than one square while stealthed. With heightened senses I can see creatures, but not terrain (walls are all I am interested in) meaning that to make sure I have not missed a passageway in a corner I need to go along every wall which is tedious. Will more infravision allow me to see terrain/walls when stealthed?

How high have you got heightened senses, and do you have any other sources of infravision? I think you need infravision of 12 or more to really feel the difference.

I'm pretty sure stealth itself supplies a light radius of 1 which means you won't see any improvement from Infravision (Heightened Senses) until your range on it is 8 (which will bump your visible light radius for walls and such up to 2).

Ahh, this may be the issue, I did not equate heightened senses to infravision, so it is just level 1, I will add a point or two to it and see if I can see a difference, as soon as I can kill some of the orcs that seem to enjoy casting area spells at the slightest sign of my presence

Hi I am running rogues and wanted to chip in.

I am playing completely with an ambush build and play in stealth mode almost exclusively. I think it would be great when you boost your awareness skills, trap detection etc, that items and traps and would appear their regular colors, standing out against the gray background. Of course I suggest it not knowing how difficult (or possible) it would be to implement but I think it would make playing with stealth much nicer.

I took a break off 6 betas or so back after a heartbreaking loss, you can see all the great work in the meantime, great stuff!

Automatic Stealth is a very nice addition. Automatic hide in plain site would be nice and may give rogues an extra chance to maneuver or escape if things dont go according to plan in a fight.
