Instead of set of rules chosen by difficulity maybe its time to implement some sort of player choice it would also help to do sort of scoring system. Options player would be able to choose would be:

- Lifes (1 to 11)
- NPC damage modification ( -40% to +40% )
- Player damage modification ( -40% to +40% )
- Healing modifier ( -20% to +20% )
- Number of escort quests ( 0 to 6 )
- Selling allowed ( yes / no )
- max OOD monster range ( 0 to +100% )
- exp. gain modifier ( -20% to +20% )
- player rank ( elite / normal )

In score what would matter:
- Turns to end game/death (less better)
- Is winner
- Killed monsters ( uniques, bosses etc. worth more)
- quests completed
- achievements got
- birth settings

Current settings as they are would be premade choices
Tutorial would be campain not difficulity

What do ya think?

Sounds pretty good. I don't understand the scoring based on turns though. Any class that uses hate or positive and/or negative have an unfair advantage.

i was thinking more of comparing scores of same class ofcourse some classes have advantage but if you take same class and different builds/tactics it makes more sense.

*bump*

I would love to be able to choose various difficulty parameters when starting a new character. Such options should only be presented after a player has won the game, of course. This would be a great way to maintain interest for players who think the game is a little too easy, but feel that Insane Mode is just a little too stupid.

Regarding the suggestions above (which are a little dated now, but generally still relevant), the range of the XP modifier should be drastically increased. If 100% is normal, then the XP range could be something like 25% - 200%.
