Angolwen vs Zigur

Hello,
I am very new to the game and decided to start playing a Fighter. I knew about the guy who offers a quest for you to gain 10 levels without using any magic. I figured this would be some kind of anti-magic reward so I took him up on it. After getting to level 11+, I was heading back victoriously to turn in my quest when I ran into a mage in the woods. He asked me for the artifact ring I was carrying (which was useless to me) so I gave it to him, glad to have accidentally completed an extra quest. As soon as I did, it failed my "Curse of Magic" quest.
I had no idea! All that hard work, lost! I tried to talk to Zigur to tell him of the mage's devious guile to subvert me, but he would have none of it.
Could there be some kind of warning or confirmation message when completing the mage's quest when you have accepted the Curse of Magic quest?
Also, could there perhaps be a blurb added that says "yes, it's okay to use infusions during this quest"?
Just a thought. Maybe, not knowing the lore of the game or not paying close enough attention to it, I didn't realize that I was making an alliance with this guy when I helped him out. (I'm playing a good guy! He just wanted to help!)
