Built-in Notebook

I'd love to see something like this.
Just a little scratch-pad where you can jot down notes important to that character, even in character. Things like "Found a room that's likely a monster room on Trollshaws level 2, come back later for it"
Can I just use notepad or EMACS or whatever? Sure, but having something built-in would be good, i mean, what doughty adventurer doesn't keep a journal?

I like this idea, but what would happen with the journal if the character dies? Dies with it? Will it be included in the dump?

If this were included, I'd like it to be saved as a separate file that opens when called for during game. Character dumps are already too large to begin with; BUT this would be cool for notes, and to help write Days in the Lives while playing, and [hopefully], not needing to switch screens.

You mean leave the notes behind as random lore for future characters to find? I kinda like that. As long as they stay pretty rare - wouldn't want to reduce loot just for an occasional humorous note from the past...

Love it. I really like ghosts from other roguelikes, and if there was some way to link finding the diary to an actual benefit, that'd be even better. (E.g., if a previous character died against boss X, and the next character finds the diary, the new character gets 3% + damage from something presumably written in the notebook. Nothing spectacular, just enough to make it neat.)
