Mouse Movement

During the more difficult life threatening situations that often occur in roguelikes, precision of movement is a necessity. With the current updates to the UI, playing exclusively with the mouse has become much more efficient. However, moving with the mouse sometimes presents a challenge. Accidentally clicking on yourself, on an adjacent wall, or into the wrong square, will spend a turn and may result in death for weaker characters. Playing in the graphical mode, the tiles are continuous in a way where sometimes it is hard to tell exactly where you are clicking yourself into (unlike for example, a chess board with clearly marked squares).

A possible suggestion to assist in mouse movement would be to add a function where the position of the mouse on the tile will highlight the tile (much the same way as using a spell initiates the pathway to the tile that will be cast on). This function should have the option to turn on or off.

Also when clicking several tiles away and 'running', this quick movement often occurs so fast that the dialogue box telling me that I am running only flickers across the screen. In areas where moving long distances is frequent, this dialogue box is a nuisance. Having a choice to change the running 'speed' would be a great addition, perhaps pausing a brief moment or so between each tile (so that the option to 'stop running' would be more relevant and easier to do). This is mainly for tactical reasons, as running too quickly around the map may put you into an undesirable position when a monster suddenly appears and deactivates the running.

I like the fast running around with the mouse currently - makes dungeon navigation much smoother, especially when you've already explored the level. I hate how moving into a wall wastes a turn though, and it happens far too often thanks to the way mouse control changes suddenly when enemies appear.
