Terms or some sort of UI customization

I'll be honest. I miss terms already.

Typical *band terms feel perhaps a bit hackish, but at the same time they're sort of elegant. They get the job done and are a clever way of allowing customization of the UI. Nothing ruins trying a new *band more quickly (for me) than a variant that just does terms wrong.

Even if real implementation of it in the new engine would not be via distinct "windows" I'd like to see some degree of UI customization.

Yes, or at the very least a way to see the messages... (If it is there, please add it to the Key list)

For messages I'll probably add a log dialog but for now you can mouse-wheel in the log display to scroll back

As for terms, they are not planned, I suppose I could allow to switch and resize things around it's not too hard but, why ? What would you change ?

You want me to use my mouse!? On a roguelike!? :P

Well, I know what I'd change - my SOP for any given *band is the regular window, one window showing messages, one showing equipment/inventory, one showing visible monster list, and one with monster recall.

I realize that the new engine departs significantly from several *band paradigms, so take it with a grain of salt, but a customizable UI is one of the big advantages of Angband and most of its variants. Side thought: I'm also wondering how things will go without my macro crutch, but I've yet to unlock any spellcasters. That's one of the things I loved. Sure, making macros is a pain, but once you have them, they're wonderful.

Well what do you used macros for ?
If just the basic cast macro with target selection then it'll work just fine with the targetting system and the hotkeys I believe.

Hint to unlock mages: the blue mountains are calling...
You can also unlock the Wilder meta-class which can have two subclasses, quite different ones at that. And also some undead races.

True, if the casting system is totally overhauled, then macros are pretty much moot anyway. I haven't felt the need to look into whether it can already be done, but what about being able to bind Ctrl+keypad and/or Alt+keypad to abilities? That way you can keep your right hand on the keypad for the most part. (Again, maybe you already can do that but I'm just running Dwarven brawlers, so whatever :))

;)

Well you can assign your talents to hotkeys and then setup the keybindings for those hotkeys to whatever you wish

One other thing that Angband-style terms do is let you make good use of multiple monitors. I have two monitors, and I like to dedicate one to a massive dungeon display using the entire monitor, and then put monster recall, inventory/equipment, item list, and monster list on part of the second display. I've tried to work with the Angband SDL port (which uses a single window, which can be subdivided to show different things) but it just doesn't work anywhere near as well.
