So, new Christmas tradition: spending a few hours cycling through my… [checks notes] 55 currently active characters so that they can all pick up the prodigy point from the special holiday event that started firing again last night. Some of that time, admittedly, was spent tweaking my savefile-scraping character-listing Perl script to detect which characters had gotten the event and which hadn't. Which in turn led to the surprising and amusing discovery that some of my characters are apparently so old and so infrequently revisited that they weren't eligible for this year's event — because they'd already gotten the event last year.  At the pace I play, I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just start planning characters around the assumption that they're eventually going to get three prodigies. (Hmm, speaking of which, perhaps now would be an opportune time to start a new character… )

23 lucky characters this year. (Would've been 24, but one of them won first. ) Now that I think of it, this seems like the sort of thing that Automatic Notes should be providing a reminder for, but I'm still trying to figure out how to detect that the player has gotten the presents and we should delete the note.

It could just be that St. Nicholas got stuck in a chimney somewhere (or became intoxicated through excessive mince pie consumption) and some lucky non-ToMEr has your precious Prodigy points moldering on a mantelpiece somewhere...

22 lucky characters this year, including one I started last night just to get the extra prodigy point. Interestingly, characters in Hammer of Urh'Rok get the Santascape zone but not the gifts event, while characters in Light From Below AFAICT don't get either.

And for this year, I have a small petition: in a future version, would it be possible to arrange for characters who receive this event to have some indication of it on their character sheet? In case any casual browsers through the characters vault might wonder why so many of my characters have three prodigies… :?

Missed last year's Santascape gifts event due to a family emergency, so I had lots of characters backed up from last year, plus all the ones I added this year - 46 lucky recipients in all, including one I started just today just to get the prodigy point. To my surprise, the Q.U.I.C.K. campaign can receive the Santascape zone event (onto a specially designated island in Point Zero, as it turns out) — but not the Santascape gifts event, alas. So I guess that's my small petition for this year: for a future version of this event to provide a hook, like the Santascape zone event does, to allow a third-party campaign to choose a place to put the Santascape gifts.

Wow, 55 characters? How do you keep track of them all? I tried juggling a few alts in another game and quickly got overwhelmed. I ended up sticking to one main character, focusing on maxing them out.

Heh. It helps that I have a frighteningly over-elaborate Perl script that scrapes information out of all my savefiles and assembles a list of characters and useful information thereabout:

It also helps that I can keep fairly extensive notes for each character, including a full talent point plan.

(A lot of it, frankly, is that when a character gets into the Orc Prides, or especially High Peak, it starts becoming actively stressful to play it, and I start getting the itch to create a new character instead… )
