ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I'm a huge fan of the Ashes of Uhr'rok starting missions. Unfortunately, I've never played them to completion, as I play Ghoul almost exclusively (yes, I know, I'm weird) and Undead start in their own, less interesting location.

It seems to me that it would be thematically appropriate to give Undead a chance of starting in the Ashes starting location. The demons don't strike me as being picky in their selection of minions. Alternatively, I'd love an addon that does the same thing.

So I'm trying to make such a mod on my own, and I'm running into some difficulties. I copy-pasted this mod, deleting the line about self._forbid_start_override from data/birth/classes.lua, but I start on Level 3 of Searing Halls, not Level 1.
