My anorithil KEEPS dying at the start

So this more of a rant, but hot damn I hate those nagas, the poison ticks for nearly 20% of my health and lasts 4+ turns, encountering multiple of them especially at close range when I get unlucky .

And when I ~do~ get past them to the end, the same sob story with the boss. If the randomly chosen location is a mob-infested place like Heart of Gloom, I may as well resign myself to fate.

I got that trick from someone and it makes that early start easier : for your starting generic spending, just get one point in heal only and max first the chants. Then sustain the armor/physical chant for the rather big physical save bonus. Get 5/5 asap in that one too. It should give you for the early parts a very substantial chance to resist the poisons and stuns. Make sure also you equip the flame rune you start with as your tool to cleanse poison. You should probably even not take your racial first if it prevents you from maxing the chant as soon as possible. You shouldn't be using any hymns until like level 10 too since the sustain is too costly on your neg energy pool for little benefits.

The boss should be easy unless you spawn in some god awful place like in the middle of the gloom with 5 rare poison spitters looking at you angrily but you cannot do much for that other than go up the stairs instantly (and forfeit any escort). Of course you should make sure you start the fight as strong as possible. Full neg energy, no talents in CDs, etc...

Cleansing the poison (or saving with the phys save from the chants) via. Physical Wild (maybe a waste of naga can stun I don't remember) or a healing infusion should greatly increase your survival if poison is the main issue. As for getting dropped into a shitty setup... can't do much there except maybe prebuff like Mordy said and get that big boy BiL shield on yourself before you zone change. I don't think you're allowed to pre prep the rod of recall anymore, but you could try that.

Good tips, I've been stuck in the same mindset restarting over and over so I kinda resigned myself to my shitty early game build which (didn't have a heal, used a hymn even though the tooltips seemed lackluster, but hey, passives!)

And I also forgot my heat beam rune removes a physical effect. Handy for more than dps, that.

Time to try again!

The only problem with pre-buffing is that destroying the portal takes something like 26-30 turns, if you look in the text box after clicking it. Maybe setting shielding rune to autocast might allow you to go in with a shield but I'm not confident that would work.

Autocast only triggers when you get a turn so that won't help, autocasting is just protection against forgetting to use it.
