ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

There are a number of artifacts of tier 5 that can only be found in the West, according to the Wiki:

- Plate armor of the King
- Lost staff of Archmage Tarelion
- Orc Feller
- Spellblade (not really level 5, but has a corresponding level range)
- Witch-Bane
- Thalorn-Tree Longbow
- Telos´s Staff Crystal
- Guidance

I can't remember finding any of these artifacts, ever. With one exception, long ago (in an older version of the game) I found a staff of Archmage Tarelion. Too bad I don't remember where I found it.

So my question is: can they still be found at all? It seems logical that they don't turn up, when I don't seem to be finding any tier 5 items in the dungeons in the west at all. So I wonder if it is possible to get these items, with the restriction mentioned on the wiki? And if it is possible, how and where can they be found?

As to 'how and where':

* Be of high enough level for Tier-5 items to spawn, in the zone. Higher level is better.
* Zone should be able to support at least Tier-4 material level
* Get lucky

Items can spawn higher than the material level, sometimes; it's random. Your best bet are the 'tier 2' zones in Maj'Eyal, after returning from the Far East, because those zones will get upgraded to material level max of 4. Tannen's Tower and the Ruins of Telmur should also be possible.

Also, it appears the Exploratory Farportal zones will support tier-5 items.

Your level has nothing to do with material tier.

Current zones in Maj'Eyal that can drop t5:
Charred Scar
Tannen's Tower

I'll just go write a patch to make backup guardians drop t5 again...

Artifacts have a level value (defined as level_range) which I am at least 50% sure has something to do with drop possibility of the item.

Do you perhaps mean the mark of the spellblaze? Charred Scar is far east..

Nope, Charred Scar is on the continent of Maj'Eyal. You just get to it from a portal on Var'Eyal. It uses Maj'Eyal loot.

This confused me also,but is true. At least, it does use the Maj'Eyal artifact list.

Bumping because seriously I wanna try out Secrets of Telos sometime. No real reason for these artifacts to be so hard to get.

Backup guardians can now drop tier5

Very, very happy with this change.

Time to perform a few appropriate sacrifice rituals to Darkgod.

In 347 hours on Steam (I don't remember pre-Steam) I found all of the East tier 5s, but only Thaloren Longbow out of West T5s. Adding them to backup guardians is a great change!

I've found almost all of these in the west, on madness difficulty. not sure if that makes a difference.

Can you also find the T5 West artifacts in farportals, by the way? And do their tiers of loot in farportals depend on your level, or is it always set to a certain tier?
