The best status removal/immunity talents in game?

As a newbie, I haven't beat the game yet, and I find status removal/immunity is crucial to the game(or at least early to mid game?). I only know light/providence is a great one, and I'd really love to have an idea of all the classes/talents that have good status removal skills. Thanks!

btw, how do you handle status problem in late game? Is it mostly solved by equipment and no longer a problem?

The best status removal talents are the wild:physical you start with and the shortest duration wild:mental you can find.

The first clears stuns and disarms. Stuns anyone without immunity and disarm wrecks anyone that uses a weapon. The second clears confuse, silence, and brainlock. Confuse and brainlock wreck everyone and silence wrecks any magic user that doesn't also have stamina talents and cripples the mobility of those magic users that do.

For the late game you will be given a free talent that reduces effect durations based on your saves, but the cooldown is long enough you shouldn't rely on it.

Timeless is also good.

Providence isn't very good. First, it's a spell so silence blocks it. Second it takes an action so stun, confuse, and sleep can block it. It's good for clearing hexes and diseases and such, but it's no substitute for wild infusions.

Honorable mention goes to the lowly healing infusion. They only clear poison and wound effects, but they don't take an action and if you have poison and stun being able to clear the poison so your wild will definitely hit the stun is good.

Late game, immunity is key. 100% stun immunity is a godsend.

100% immunity isn't practical for most classes except at the higher difficulties.

Halfling talent Indomitable works great against physical statuses.

Primal infusion is like a wild card, works against all 3 categories, but if you have multiple ailments at the same time it's random what it takes off.

There are multiple items that remove status conditions such as Wintertide phial

But as you surmised the best solution is to not get affected by status ailments at all in the first place by stacking immunities as high as possible, prioritizing the nastiest ones first like stun, blind, silence, confuse, disarm. Certain non artifact items can give multiple immunities each, like boots and rings.

Doombringer's Cauterize Spirit is the reason I unlock Fearfire before Wrath. It's instant cast, gets rid of everything, and in return does damage to you over seven turns that is very easy to manage. The downside is that it is a spell, so silence still screws you.

Demonologists can get Fiery Cleansing from a fire imp body seed, which also IIRC cleans out statuses instantly at the price of health. I cannot remember for sure, but I think that there is a limit to the number of statuses it can clear and it delivered all its damage instantly. It has the problems of being a spell as well. Also, this is just my experience, but whenever I got stunned or brainlocked the damn thing was a magnet for being put on cooldown to the point that I just started using other body seeds.

In my experience, you'll find all of the above combined useful but ultimately inadequate. I recommend a nice stack of infusion patches of clearing as a backup. They do take a turn to use, though (and they're consumed on use, of course), so use your wild infusion and other talents first.

...? Is 100% immunity more common at higher difficulties? Or do higher difficulties change the threat balance such that other approaches become less practical compared to stacking immunities?

:? Do people actually use Wintertide Phial for detrimental effect removal? That never made sense to me: its light radius is too small to use as your full-time light source,? it can't be used as a swap-in because it apparently loses its charge in your pack, and its cooldown is ridiculous.

? And no, the increased infravision range doesn't make up for it; there are too many things you need to be able to see that aren't warm-blooded animals.

Infravision detects all creatures, this isn't Angband.

If you have other sight improving stats from other items, the low lite radius on Wintertide Phial isn't an issue.

No one mentioned disperse magic?!?!
its a -metamagic- talent which allows you to remove 1 to 3 magical status effects.
negative from yourself, or positive from enemies.
can also be found on some gauntlets.

if you don't like infusions, you can use runes.
-blizzard rune (i think that's what it was called) for mental, also freezes all enemies
-heat beam rune for physical, also ALL SHALL BURN
-acid wave, cleans your magical statuses and disarms all targets

if you can use "technique-conditioning", and can spare some points into constitution, you may can invest some generics into the second talent,
which EVERY TURN has a % chance to remove any of the listed physical effects (each points adds another type of physical, no poisons.)
first talent in that tree also is SWEET in that if your life drops below 50% it triggers powerful regen, that early game makes you invincible "unless".

if you are a mindslayer (which from you being new i guess not) or an adventurer (even less likely) you will have that ability called "realign" in a "finer energy manipulation" generic talent tree, that on top of healing you, removes [1, 1, 2, 2, 3] negative status effects. self only.

if you have a problem with poisons, aside from "vitality", you can use "waters of life" which is the second talent of the

Lantern of unlife has an ability called "retch" and makes its holder be considered as undead.
Retch heals all undead fur xx each turn, and deall xx blight damage to all non undead, as well as removes 1 negative status effect from undead, and 1 positive from enemies.

with gauntlets of dispersing and lantarn of retching, you don't have much to worry about in terms of negative status effects. mental don't happen that often outside of the tower of the cursed cave, undead tower, or some other specific location.

if you are REALLY desperate, you can always use a "vile transplant", although that require you to deal with the corrupter, then corrupt a heart, and then spend 4 talent points for a stupid talent tree that doesn't do you much unless you have a specific build, and then using it hurt you a bit... and i don't remember which types of statuses i moves. btw, i think the enemy will also be healed for the same amount?

Probably. By all reports everything else is. There are more rares and orange uniques.

Two reasons, I think:

Enemy powers are a lot stronger, so it's harder to get your saves high enough to matter, whereas immunity still maxes at 100%.

Higher difficulties means more rares and such, so the quality of loot you get in general goes up.

You're still thinking just creatures, though. Infravision doesn't see walls, does it?
HousePet wrote:If you have other sight improving stats from other items, the low lite radius on Wintertide Phial isn't an issue.
Meh, unless these "sight improving stats" let you see terrain and objects beyond your light radius, they aren't really an adequate replacement.

So, a little of both, then. Fair enough.

I believe infravision does allow you to see walls.

I think only the arcane eye lite ego is the only thing that will let you see outside your light radius, so you are being a bit picky there. :P

I was referring to other items which increase light radius as making Wintertide Phial acceptable.

The best status removal in the game is dying.

Every 4 tiles of infravision gives you a tile of light radius, so ~8 infra is usually good enough for terrain IMO. I also tend to use wands of clairvoyance heavily until the good artifact tools start showing, which light things up anyway.
