ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I last played TOME back in April 2013. It was a fascinating game that drew me in. I got a Shalore Summoner up to 28th level. But after I defeated one of the major bosses, I got distracted by other things, and put the game aside. It was version 1.0.0.

I've recently started playing again. I'm continuing to play version 1.0.0 (back from December 2012!). I'm very wary of upgrading to 1.2.5, because I'm pretty sure it will break my save. I've never gotten this far in the game before, and I'd hate to break the save.

So... would that happen?

It's pretty likely, yeah. I would not upgrade until you finish that character.

It won't be compatible. I remember incompatibility happening a lot later versions, but the game has evolved quite a bit so be sure to hop on to the latest version when done with that character.

Also any and all item vault stored items from your version will be incompatible with new game version so don't bother stashing them if you upgrade the game later.

It takes me so long to get through a single game, that I face this problem all the time. I can't complete a game in between patches. I have a parallel issue going on with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup!
