Any Tips for Dwarf Beserker?

I love ToME, and I really only prefer warrior classes. I really love the dwarf beserker, but every single death I've had so far has been from dumb luck or a mage brusting me to 0 before I can do anything about it. Highest level I think I've been is 10, most deaths at that level have been my own fault.

But what I really need right now is any tips on how to deal with magic? I've been trying to ignore anything Arcane powered so I can join the antimagic people(forgot their name), but I died at level 10 trying to take their test, which was my fault.

Put points in rush, which well let you get close to the mages before they kill you. You should rush and then stun casters. If you can't see them, try to find a wand of clairvoyance and use it the instant you get hit by a mage from out of sight - it will reveal the mage and then you can get close and kill.

later on you can put points in the spell save ability, which might help some.

First off don't take that test at lvl 10. Last guy in that test is a lvl 29 orc corruptor, and that is after fighting like 4 other things with no rest. Probably more like lvl 20 or so (varies a lot).

You basically need to concentrate on understanding inscriptions, condition removal is very important. You will want rush, but even more you want a movement infusion. Basically you want to use LOS to your advantage and get up to them before they can do anything. So clairvoyance/track is good for this, but perhaps that is tedious for you I dunno. One of the best things against mages is to know they are around a corner and the run up to them with fast movement while shielded, and then stun and kill them. Another possibility is to close ~4 sqaures with a movemtn and then rush the last 6 if you can't LOS and are in a completely open area (however in roguelike mode it is almost always better to do a tactical retreat).

Basically LOS and movement is what you need to use. Getting clairvoycne/track/telepathy helps that alot. Also Mindblast torques can help a lot. A shield or heal inscription is good since they are instant. You can always remove (overwrite) the shield before trying to go AM. Or even preloading a good regen infusion.

If you get hit by a mage from long range and have not prepared your battlefield you should retreat and take another approach on roguelike.

When playing any game with 1 life and permadeath escape options are basically one of the most powerful things in the game and should be used wisely and liberally. Never advance into a situation which may stop you from escaping. Once you escape your main obective is to maneuver the threat into a more advantageous postioning.

Get a good movement infusion, Rush, a psychoportation torque/teleport, and a form of tracking via escort or item. Go to Last Hope/Zigur early and get a good T3 weapon. You get a lot of gold from Trollmire 4 and Lumberjack Camp, enough to get something nice. Once you have that you should be able to Rush>Stunning Blow>kill any caster quite easily. If stuff goes bad you can Unstoppable or teleport/movement away. Also, 4/5 Unflinching Resolve ASAP.

Sometimes it helps to watch someone else play the game and learn from them. I did a Let's Learn series and have it up on YouTube for viewing here:

Let's Learn Tales of Maj'Eyal

I use a Thaloran Shadowblade, but there is still a lot of mechanisms and gameplay that can be viewed and made use of in your own game.

About all you need to worry about as a dwarf berserker...

"Chop em to pieces! Slash em to bits!"
