Am I missing something on this update?

I can only load when I have "load previous versions" selected. Are we meant to start over with this new update?

Most updates are "start over" updates, yeah.

Savefiles are usualy compatible (and are in this case), but the game only shows by default the ones from the current version. Just check the box and load your saves and it shall be fine
