What the hell is "gloom damage" and why isn't it documented?

I found gloves that do 40 gloom on crit (I'm guessing it's the sorrow affix) but that doesn't tell me much about what they actually do.

It does effects like the Cursed Gloom aura.
It isn't documented because none of damage types are.

40% chance to inflict a gloom debuff, as per the Cursed class feature. It probably could be more transparently named.

IIRC it used to be written "40% gloom effect" which at least led in the right direction.
Maybe that change can simply be reverted?

It also seems to do some amount of mind damage that doesn't make sense with what's listed. It's an explosion on crit and I'm getting 134 damage on the training dummies with 150% crit mult and no mind damage bonuses. Would be nice if the goofy element+something else types would just say what they do instead of some impenetrable shorthand that makes it impossible to compare items without digging around in the source.

It shouldn't (read: literally could not possibly) be causing mind damage. It used to have a far more useful name which read that it was specifically a chance to cause status. This name was changed during an update through all the damage types to make them read better in a new battle log system. This particularly damage type got the short end of the stick and probably ought to be renamed to something slightly more obvious.

Just like the Accuracy things listed in weapons.
I bet not 1 in 100 players knows what 4.0% dam proc /acc means.... Thats some shit lazy programming there to be honest.

Until recently, I was somehow under the impression that apr meant attacks per round, and that mindstars were disgustingly powerful because of it.

While I'm at it what's "damage resonance"?

A damage boost when you get hit by that element or something iirc.

It's undocumented!
It means when you get hit with some kinds of damage, you get a timed effect buff for that kind of damage, up to the +% listed.
Like, if you had 8% damage resonance, and some Skeleton Mage hits you with a Fire spell, you'd get a buff which gives you +8% Fire damage for the duration. Sometimes useful, but frequently useless given how some monsters like dragons are immune to their own damage type, and how rare it is to be hit with that one special damage type around which you built your whole character.

Yeah, I'm having trouble thinking of a less useless property that isn't outright negative.

It has one hidden upside: It's a positive effect that can be dispelled. If you are hit by Disperse Magic or Corrupted Negation there's a good chance that it will save a useful buff.

For a Wildfire Archmage it's great! You're always bathing in your own lake of flames, after all, so it's quite possible to right-click cancel any non-Fire resonance and let your own Burning Wake hit you.
Of course, Resonance is only on Mindstars and what kind of Archmage would use those... so yeah, it's pretty useless.
