ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Between the many YASDs I've had between today and yesterday, I failed to notice that something important about my character that changed while I was struggling to get her to Dreadfell in one piece. She had turned into a he.

Since things have finally gone right for once, I want to just change my character's gender leaving everything else the same instead of just starting over again (the investment!). I would like some advice on how I should go about this from someone who's worked with manipulating the save files previously. The first question I have is whether I should go to cheat/development mode or if I should change some entries on the actual save files.

Look in the save for a file with the word Player in it, change the line where it says ["female"]=false to ["female"]=true, then just do a find and replace to change "male" (or "Male") to "female" (or "Female" when it was already capitalized).
